A Research On Yangliuqing Lunar New Year’s Painting And Its Innovative Application In Fashion Design

With the rapid development of the society, Yangliuqing Lunar New Year’s Paintings, as treasures of Chinese traditional culture, have been fading out people’s life gradually. These Lunar New Year’s Paintings recording the folk customs and people’s spiritual artistic conceptions are filled with rich ethnic characters. Culture is the soul of a nation and it need to be inherited and developed. Research methods including fieldwork, visiting the inheritors, and literature review are adopted in the author’s research. The present paper analyzes Yangliuqing Lunar New Year’s Paintings mainly from five aspects: forming background, development history, theme and implication, production process, and artistic features. As one of Chinese traditional folk arts, Yanliuqing Lunar New Year Paintings differ from other art works by the contents they present. What they recorded are Chinese folk customs, and each painting truly reflects people’s minds, living customs, history and spiritual cultures in those days. Actually they are the epitome of an era and have high value for historical research.On the basis of understanding the artistic form and aesthetic value of Yangliuqing Lunar New Year’s Paintings, and comprehending the connotations of folk customs and humanism they present, this paper aims to explore their inheritance and development in modern fashion design. How to combine the Lunar New Year’s Paintings with modern fashion design in a new perspective? How to integrate them with modern live in a popular way? How to ensure their implications will not be damaged while develop in this new ear? All these questions are worth thinking deeply. The innovation that the author applies Yangliuqing Lunar New Year’s Paintings to modern fashion design is not to apply the elements mechanically or to design abstractly that out of their content, but to present them to people in a way that in line with current fashion trend and that can be accepted by popular aesthetics, and at the same time its special cultural implication can be retained. The readers are hoped to be enlightened by the researches and discussions in the paper and by the creative practice of combining Yangliuqing Lunar New Year’s Paintings with modern fashion design.
