The wire rope,a special space helical structure product,is twisted according to certain rules with a certain number of wires or strands.It is the ideal bearing engineering structural parts with the advantage of high strength,flexibility and stability.The mechanical properties of the wire rope is closely related with its own geometric structure,so the structural design of the rope is particularly essential.However,the weakness of traditional wire rope is each of the surrounding helical wires may touches its two adjacent helical wires in the same layer when bearing load.In order to solve this problem,the structure of the wire rope is designed with a certain angle between adjacent wire of the same layers,and the analysis shows that this can effectively avoid wire contact of the wires in same layer.Firstly,in this paper,the types of wire ropes,the characteristics and applications of various structures are introduced.The structural design theory of single wire contact wire rope is studied deeply,and the criterion of position relation between adjacent layers is given.For the time-consuming shortcomings of the design and calculation of the traditional steel wire rope structure,the geometrical parameters of the single wire contact wire rope are calculated based on the one-dimensional search method.This method not only improves the accuracy of the calculation,but the contact position.Taking the 1×19S type wire rope as an example,the process of the process is introduced.Secondly,the theoretical solution of axial force and torque of n-layer seale type wire rope is derived based on Love theory and Costello theoretical model.A simplified finite element model of 1×19S wire rope was established by using the spiral symmetry of the wire rope,and the precise boundary condition was used to predict the mechanical properties of the steel wire rope.The correctness of the model is verified by comparing the finite element results with the theoretical solution.Finally,two typical conditions,fixed end and the free end,are analyzed.The influence of friction and helical angle on the mechanical properties of the wire rope is discussed.By observing the deformation of the wire,it is concluded that just setting very small angle the contact between adjacent wire in the same layers can be avoided.It provides an essential reference for the design of the wire rope in the future.
