Objective: The therapeutic index by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quest ionnaire (PSQI), symptom score of sleep quality before and after the treatment, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) are all served as the observed indicators in this research, compare the differences of efficacy on patients with insomnia according to needling the back shu points of five internal organs and routine acupuncture. To evaluate the efficacy by needling the back shu points of five internal organs for insomnia, and to further explore the mechanism of acupuncture on the back shu points of five internal organs.Method: By the way of random and trial, 60 insomnia patients were randomly assigned into treatment group, 30 patients received acupuncture therapy by needling the back shu points of five internal organs and control group in which 30 patients accepted routine acupuncture therapy. The acupoints selected in the treatment group were Feishu,Xinshu,livershu,spleenshu,Shenshu, and the main acupoints in the control group were Baihui, Neiguan, Shenmen, and the sleep point. Compare the sleep quality score and symptom score before the treatment, and after the first and second course of treatment respectively; and compare PSQI values, each indicator’s score of PSQI value,and SAS, HAMD scores before the treatment and after two courses of treatment; to compare efficiency of the two groups after the first and second treatment.Result: 1. Compared the effect of two groups in sleep quality and symptom scores before and after the first and second treatment, there was significant differences (P<0.01), between the two groups was significant differences (P<0.05). 2. Compared the PSQI values, and SAS,HAMD scores after two course of treatment, there was very significant differences (P<0.01) within each group; between the two groups there was a significant difference (P<0.05). 3. Compared each indicator’s score of PSQI value after two courses of treatment, there was very significant differences (P<0.01) within each group, but there was no significant differences (P>0.05) between the two groups in improving of sleep latency, sleep time, score of sleep disturbance; when compared the rest , sleep quality, sleep efficiency, and dose of sleep medication, function during the day, there was significantly differences (P<0.05).4.After the first and second treatment, there was significant differences (P<0.05) between the two group.Conclusion: 1. Both therapies have significant effects in improving the quality of sleep, can release the patient’s anxiety and depression symptoms. 2. The treatment group was better than the control group in improving the quality of sleep and releasing anxiety and depression symptoms. 3. To evalute the effect after two treatments, the treatment group was obviously better than the control group.
