Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined the traditional Chinese medicine bath curing upper limb spasm following stroke.Method:Sixty patients with upper limb spasm following stroke were randomly divided into a therapy group and a control group,30 in each. The patients of the control group were treated by acupuncture simply. Traditional Chinese medicine bath was applied on the basis of the rehabilitation treatment in the therapy group. A course of treatment was 6 days, with the interval of 1 day, totally 4 courses. The modified Ashworth score, Fugl-Meyer score(upper extremity), Modified Barthel index score and root mean square score were used to evaluate the efficacy before and after the treatment.Result:1.Fugl-Meyer scores between two groups before treatment showed no significant difference (P>0.05), after treatment, compared with before treat-ment (P<0.05),comparison within both groups was significantly different (P<0.01)2.The modified Ashworth scale between two groups before treatment showed no significant difference (P>0.05), after treatment, comparison between two groups was significantly different (P<0.05).3.MBI scores between two groups before treatment showed no significant difference (P>0.05), after treatment, compared with before treatment, comparison within both groups was significantly different (P< 0.05). comparison between two groups was significantly different (P<0.05).4.RMS scores between two groups before treatment shwed no significant difference (P>0.05), after treatment, compared with before treatment, comparison within both groups was significantly different (P<0.05), comparison between two groups was significantly different (P<0.01).Conclusions:1. Acupuncture combined the traditional Chinese medicine bath can effectively improve upper limb spasm after stroke in patients with upper limb motor function, efficacy in treatment group is better than that in control group.2. Acupuncture combined the traditional Chinese medicine bath can effectively improve upper limb spasm after stroke in patients with activities of daily living, efficacy in treatment group is better than that in control group.3. Acupuncture combined the traditional Chinese medicine bath can effectively reduce upper limb spasm after stroke and lessen functional disturbance.4. Acupuncture combined the traditional Chinese medicine bath can effectively reduce upper limb spasm after stroke in patients with RMS credits.
