Acupoint Application For Chronic Stable Angina Pectoris:a Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective:This research aims to observe the clinical effect of acupoint application on chronic stable angina pectoris, and hope to apply the evidence to clinic.Method:160 patients were involved in this trial, and randomized divided into 2 groups. Patients in group A were treated with acupoint application with drugs named Guan Xin Su He Xiang Wan which is effective to stable angina pectoris, and patients in group B were treated with sham drugs. Both group A and group B were used unilateral acupoints (PC6, RN17, BL15, BL14) and each side was used alternatively. Participants in group A and group B received 12 sessions over 4 weeks,3 times a week, with 2 days’interval in a week. The primary outcome was the attack frequency of angina pectoris, while the secondary outcomes were pain level of angina pectoris, Visual Analogue Scale, dose of Nitroglycerin, Seattle Angina Questionnaire, treatment assessment and symptoms improvement.Results:The trial was well completed and the characteristics of 2 groups were comparable. The group A had effect on treating stable angina pectoris after the treatment and during the follow-up compared to baseline on the attack frequency of angina pectoris, Visual Analogue Scale, dose of Nitroglycerin, Seattle Angina Questionnaire, treatment assessment and Symptoms improvement (P＜0.05), except the Seattle Angina Questionnaire (body limited degree) after the treatment and the Seattle Angina Questionnaire (attack frequency of angina) during the follow-up (P>0.05).The group B had no effect on treating stable angina pectoris after the treatment and during the follow-up compared to baseline on the attack frequency of angina pectoris, Visual Analogue Scale, dose of Nitroglycerin, Seattle Angina Questionnaire, except the Seattle Angina Questionnaire (disease cognition) after the treatment (P<0.05), the Seattle Angina Questionnaire (body limited degree and an anginal stability) during the follow-up(P<0.05).The group A had effect on treating stable angina pectoris compared to the group B on the attack frequency of angina pectoris, pain level of angina pectoris, Visual Analogue Scale, dose of Nitroglycerin, Seattle Angina Questionnaire (P<0.05), except the effect on Seattle Angina Questionnaire (body limited degree) after the treatment(4 weeks) (P>0.05).Conclusion:Guan Xin Su He Xiang Wan was effective to treat chronic stable angina pectoris, which is not only can improve the attack frequency of angina pectoris, pain level of angina pectoris, Visual Analogue Scale, dose of Nitroglycerin, Seattle Angina Questionnaire, etc. but also can improve the life quality of the patients with chronic stable angina pectoris. Besides, acupoint application therapy is a safe therapy to treat chronic stable angina pectoris, which can be an assistant treatment to treat patients with chronic stable angina pectoris.
