Objective More and more epidemiological survey confirmed that carbonated drinks and dentin hypersensitive are closely related, and many reports show that young people’s dentin hypersensitivity incidence increased year by year.It is reported that undergraduate athletes would drink more Carbonated drinks after exercise. The purpose of this study is to analysis the relationship between dentin hypersensitivity and drinking carbonated beverage habit of undergraduate athletes in Hefei, and to analyze different ways of drinking carbonated beverage on Dentin Sensitivity. Methods A randomly sampling method was used in this study, which choosing 600 undergraduate athletes from three universities in Hefei for questionnaire survey and clinical examinations.According to the questionnaire results,465 students who drink with carbonated drinks were enrolled in dentin-hypersensitive clinical examinations.294 students who have DH and drinking carbonated drinks were randomly divided into 3groups,group A-blank control, group B-rinse with water immediately after drinking carbonated drinks, group C-drinking carbonated drinks with a straw.Check their DH changes after 3 months and 6 months, but there are two students were disqualified of extraction and root canal therapy,so the actual study is 292 students.SPSS19.0 was used to analyze the differences between groups. Results Among 600 undergraduate athletes,3.5% students never drink carbonated drinks,19% students rarely drink, the remaining 465 students have the habit of drinking carbonated drinks,45.5% students drink 1-2 times a week,26% students drink 3-5 times a week,6% students drink everyday. And 49.7% students say they would drink more when the exercise increased,91.1% students drink directly,6.7% students occasionally use a straw,2.2% students always use a straw.89.9% students do not mouthwash or brushing teeth after drinking,7.9% students mouthwash with water after drinking,0.6% ill directly brush your teeth,1.5% will first mouthwash and then brush teeth. The prevalence rate was 65.5%,and only 9.8% students for dentin-hypersensitive will ask for medical treatment.3 months later, the sensitivity of dentin was examined. There was no significant difference among the groups. After 6 months, group A-21 cases were aggravated,2 cases were alleviated, group B-17 cases were aggravated,6 cases were alleviated,1 case disappeared, group C-3 cases were aggravated,27 cases were alleviated and 5 cases disappeared. There was no significant difference between groups A and B,and there was significant difference between group C and group A or group B(P <0.05)Conclusion The proportion of college students drinking carbonated drinks is high, reaching 77.5%.Most students directly drink, sensitive to the dentin and awareness of prevention is relatively weak,we need to enhance the health education in this area.Interventions showed that there is no help by mouthwash after drinking carbonated beverages, and using a straw will improve the sensitivity of dentin.
