Background:Interleukin-22(IL-22),which is also named IL-10-related T cell-derived inducible factor(IL-TIF),is one of the members of the IL-10 family of cytokines produced by pleuripotent T cells. It is uniqe because it is the exclusive cytokines which produced by immune cells but don’t act on immune system. It is mainly produced by dendritic cells(DC),T-helper(Th)-17 cells,T-helper(Th)-22-cells,NK cells and NKT cells, and a role for IL-22 has been identified in numerous tissues and organs including the intestines, lung, liver, kidney, thymus, pancreas and skin.In recent years, researches show that IL-22 not only act as protective role but also cause pathologic damage according to different microenvironment. Therefore, this paper revolves around the role and pathogenesis of IL-22 in different liver diseases including viral hepatitis, alcohol hepatitis, hepatic fibrosis, hepatic cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma and acute hepatic failure. Objective:So as to provide some references for the clinical treatment of hepatic diseases better by review current researches in the relationship between IL-22 and liver disease.Methods:In“IL-22;viral hepatitis;alcoholic hepatitis;hepatic fibrosis;hepatic cirrhosis;hepatocellular carcinoma;acute liver failure”and other keywords to find out the related researches of the relationships between IL-22 and hepatic diseases.Conclusion:IL-22 as the newly-discovered CD4+T-helper(Th)-4-cells related cytokines,it plays a variety of roles in the development and progression in all kinds of hepatic diseases. In liver diseases,it’s like a double-edged sword, have a good side and bad side.
