Objective: Understand the prevalence and related risk factors of metabolic syndrome(MetS)in northern Xinjiang,and put forward corresponding strategies and suggestions to identify key prevention and control populations,so as to provide evidence for developing effective strategies and measures for the prevention and treatment of MetS.Methods: By using the method of stratified random sampling,in 2015 in the northern region of Xinjiang,selected Fuhai,Fukang and Hefeng County,to the community or village as a unit to carry out the investigation,using the method of field survey,conducted a survey of 1920 permanent residents aged 35 or more,including questionnaire,anthropometric measurements(blood pressure,height,weight,waist circumference,etc.)and laboratory indexes(blood glucose,triglyceride,high density lipoprotein,low density lipoprotein,total cholesterol)detection.The American Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Program third report(NCEP-ATP III)was used to diagnose the revised version of the Asian population as the diagnostic criteria of MetS.Results: The prevalence of MetS in northern Xinjiang is 17.9%(332 cases).The prevalence rate of male is 15.9%,and the prevalence of female is 19.7%.With the increase of age,the prevalence of female MetS is increasing.Conclusions: The prevention and control of MetS in the northern part of Xinjiang should focus on the middle-aged and the elderly,especially the middle-aged and old women.
