This report is based on the translation of A House in the Sky by Amanda Lindhout—a Canadian humanitarian and journalist, and it includes the analysis and summary of the translation process. In this report the translator analyzes some problems encountered in the translation process from the perspective of Newmark’s translation typology and the strategies of semantic translation and communicative translation. Then the translator tries to analyze how to reproduce the flavor and tone generated by the application of strategies of semantic and communicative translation. Therefore, reasonable description and conclusion of the biography translation can be made to improve the translation competence. This translation report consists of the following five parts. The first part is the description of the translation task, which gives a brief introduction to the source text, the author and provides an analysis of the original work. The second part focuses on the related theories, which includes the translation typology and the strategies of semantic translation and communicative translation.Part three and four constitute the main body of the translation report, which include translation process analysis and case analysis. The last part concludes with the lessons, enlightenments and unsolved problems in the translation project which need in-depth reflection in practice.
