With the development of economy and globalization, education is playing a more and more important role in the world. If a country wants to survive in such a competitive environment, it has to develop its own education. Great education is the foundation of a flourishing society and China should learn foreign advanced educational concepts and methods to develop its own education. Against this background, the translator chose to translate Chapter 9 of Building a Better Teacher to introduce some advanced teaching concepts and skills to Chinese readers. This report is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction to the translation project, including the background and significance, as well as the structure of the report. The second part gives an introduction to the source text, consisting of the author, main content and linguistic features. The third part introduces skopos theory—the guiding theory of the translation report. The fourth part summarizes translation difficulties and corresponding solutions. Based on the skopos theory, the translator outlines translation methods and techniques to deal with specialized terms, long sentences and textual coherence through the analysis of typical examples in the translation. The last part concludes the experience and lessons learned from the project.
