From the perspective of Skopos theory, this thesis intends to probe into the strategies for the C-E translation of scenic public signs in Sanya. Translation activities are indispensable for the economic globalization among all the counties in this world. People from different countries need to communicate and engage in foreign trades with each other. That’s why they should attach great importance to these translation activities. As an international tourism destination, Hainan province should make sure its services reach international standards in the tertiary industry. Thus, it needs an international language environment so as to establish a successful tourism destination. That’s why the C-E translation of scenic public signs is extremely important to serve and guide the foreign tourists. And this is the significance of writing this thesis.A case study is conducted to analyze the situation about the C-E translation of scenic public signs in Sanya in order to find some useful strategies. A large number of public sign cases are provided in this thesis. The cases of those inappropriate usages of public signs are also analyzed. And then some helpful solutions are offered in this thesis. This thesis intends to combine the Skopos theory with the translation practice to solve the practical problems of scenic public signs in Sanya. Anyway, the C-E translation for the scenic public signs is not an easy task. At first, the causes of those inappropriate expressions should be found. And then translators should follow some international standards when they translate the public signs. Finally, translators should make use of effective translation strategies when they translate the scenic public signs.The author of this thesis hopes that this research can be helpful for improving the quality and standardization of the C-E translation of scenic public signs in Sanya.
