This thesis is a report on the English-Chinese translation of “National Renewable Energy Policy & Action Plan”(excerpt) which was submitted to the organizer of the 3rd Forum on China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Collaborative Innovation by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology & Water of Malaysia before the conference. The source text is obviously characterized by scientific and technical factors in terms of vocabulary, paragraph, sentence pattern and cohesion. In the past thirty years, technical translation has played a more and more significant role in importing advanced technologies to serve China’s modernization. Under the circumstance of globalization, technology has permeated into everywhere of life. The conditions of social and economic development have proposed a higher demand for translators and interpreters of technical translation in the aspect of knowledge structure. For this reason, MTI students should be trained to do some studies on the problems that occur in the process of technical translation to seek for the specific solutions. In this thesis, the author bases her studies on a technical translation practice, describing the project background, purpose and procedures of the translation practice, and then selecting typical problems and difficulties occurred in the process of translation to analyze. In the case studies, the author generalizes five specific translation strategies which were adopted in her translation practice from the perspective of Relevance Theory at lexical level, sentence level and textual level, in order to give some experience and suggestions on technical translation.
