Listening,, plays a significant role in second language acquisition. However, listening class occupied a little percentage of the whole teaching syllabus. Each text in listing textbooks shares tiny time of teaching arrangement(one unit should be taught in two hours),thus, teachers could not have enough time to teach their students specifically, students have no chance to do necessary language exercises. It is becoming a problem. If learners do not familiar with relative background information or structural knowledge towards target language, they would not understand materials they are listening effectively; the result is students could not enhance their comprehensive language ability. Under the adaption of schema theory, teachers can solve above problems. It can stimulate students' receiving schematic information and understanding of new lesson. For intermediate Chinese learners, most of whom have past HSK4 examination, have studied Chinese about a year and their vocabulary is around 2000 to 2500 words, they are familiar with some of the Chinese culture, too. Since the base of knowledge that learners need to store is emphasized by the schema theory, so the best usage of schema theory to learn Chinese plays efficient role. Schema theory also urges learners to active original knowledge and sets higher level of knowledge system. Therefore, schema theory would be took as the theoretical basis in this article, and with this basis an intermediate listening lesson plan of the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language would be designed.This thesis contains five parts. The first chapter is introduction; it includes background information and domestic foreign literature review.The second chapter presents the definition of schema theory as well as its development?classification and features;the link between schema and the second language acquisition has been concluded by personal experience.The third chapter is a discussion about intermediate listening teaching of the teaching Chinese as a foreign language and schema's usage: definition of listening teaching and the effect of schema theory; talk about the theory's function of each stage of listening;The forth chapter shows the author's teaching design which designed based on the theory of schema, in this chapter, the principles of design, teaching subject, teaching goal and teaching materials are presented. This thesis chose the ninth lesson “Guess who he is?” from Developing Chinese(the second edition) published by Beijing Language and Culture University press to show a teaching case of intermediate listening lesson which designed according to the questionnaire and teaching principles with the schema theory as its direction.In the end, this thesis summarized the enlightenment of the schema theory act on the intermediate Chinese listening class. And try to discuss the role of schema theory that plays in preparation, classroom activities, after-class assignment for teaching listening comprehension.
