Reading class, as a class which requires reading a large number of materials, learners need to read all kinds of genres and themes of the material quickly, and obtain the information they need and think it about. The learners in the primary stage due to the level of Chinese is limited, there is a certain degree of difficulty of fast reading. So how to help learners in the primary stage achieve fast reading? Exercises are an indispensable important factor. Exercises play an important role in the increasing of the learners’ vocabulary, the ability of recognizing and reading Chinese characters and the improvement of reading ability.The article studies three representative textbooks of reading textbooks in primary stage,they are《HANYU YUEDU JIAOCHENG》、《HANYU XILIEYUEDU》、《Elementary Chinese Reading Course》.Analyzing the exercises of the three textbooks from the quantity、the types of the questions and the content of the exercises, and on the base of the results, evaluating the existing exercises, getting the advantage and disadvantages, hence put forward the suggestions for the exercises design of the reading textbooks in the primary stage.Through the author’s investigation, found existing reading textbook exercises for the primary stage have the following problems:(1) the amount is not uniform;(2)the types of the questions are relatively single, not do some appropriate adjustments according to the specific reading material;(3) the content of the exercises has paid too much attention to the training of the "word", ignored the training of the "listening" skill. Therefore, aimed at these shortcomings, the author puts forward the following suggestions for the design of the exercises for the reading class’ s textbooks of the primary stage:(1) in terms of exercises’ amount, it should be adjusted according to the learners, keep the balance between the amount of the exercises of each lesson and period, and so on;(2) in terms of the types of exercises, it should unify the name of the types of exercises, change the existing types of exercises, and so on;(3) in terms of the content of the exercises, it should pay attention to the comprehensive development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and the training of reading skills, and so on.The paper is divided into six parts: The first chapter is the introduction, stating the significance of this study, research methods and so on; The second chapter is the illustration of the statistical standard and the questionnaire survey; The third chapter separately investigated the exercises of the existing textbooks from the view of the quantity of the exercises, the types of the exercises and the content of exercises; The fourth chapter is the evaluation of the existing exercises of the textbooks; The fifth chapter is suggestions for the design of the exercises of the reading class’ s textbooks for the primary stage; The sixth chapter is the conclusion, summarizing the whole paper and pointing out the shortcomings of this paper.
