Zhou Shoujuan had written for more than 50 years, He was not only the editors of many best-selling newspapers but also a hardworking author, he has also made a great contribution to the field of translation. He had been translating from the Early Republic of China to new China was founded. His works include 469 translated novels, which are chosen from 27 counties. But his works were treated as just entertainments by the New Literature’s writers, Because of they deliberately distorted the facts, Zhou’s translations and creation works were not valued by literatus. People generally think Zhou likes writing romantic novels, his style of the novel is secular and vulgar, but they haven’t found that it was Zhou who brought in western culture to China, civilized society atmosphere and introduced new moral concepts from the west. His translation is conducive to the progress of social thought and the change of literary genre. It is undeniable that zhou adopted relatively conservative mild attitudes and strategies in translation practice, but his translation has a certain modern significance.tThis paper is devided into 4 parts. The first part is introduction, sumarizing the research of Zhou’s novels both at home and abroad as well as explaining the studying popurse, contents and methods. The second part analyzes the corpus-based activities of Zhou’s translation and the choice of his subjects. And it also focuses on the comtemporary significance, which is mainly reflected in four aspects:the "new woman" consciousness in the marriage and love stories, the humanism spirit in society novels, modern family and national concepts in patriotic novels, detective novels developing people’s mind. The third part analysis the reform of Zhou’s translated novels, embodied in artistic description and narrative mode. The fourth part is the analysis of Zhou Shoujuan’s translation language style: colloquial and Europeanization. This paper discusses the modern significance, in a narrow sense, it is a new and progressive significance compared with the past. In this paper, I collected Zhou Shoujuan’s translation works published in newspaper in the period of the Republic of China, his publications, conducted a exploration and analysis, and explored the enlightenment of his translation works to the social thought, language and style of Chinese fiction. I come to the conclusion that Zhou’s translation works have a certain modern significance.
