This is a translation project report.The source text is The Maya.The part to be translated is the third chapter of this book.There is no Chinese version of this part up to now.The Maya civilization is an outstanding representation of ancient Indian civilization in Latin America and America.It is famous for the Indian Mayas and its historic sites are mainly distributed over the places such as Mexico,Guatemala,Honduras and so on.The source texthas two authors,Michael.D.Coe and Stephen Douglas Houston.They are all famous archaeologists and scholars who have made great contribution to the development of the Maya civilization.The part to be translated is the third chapter of this book.Accordinng to the analysis of the translator,the source text can be classified into informative text,with the guidance of the Skopos theory,the translator adopted conversion,division,zero translation,reorganization to transalate this book.Translating The Maya is of great significance.Firstly,through the translation of this book,the translator can show readers the colorful world of Maya,and help all the readers to get to know the Maya civilization.In this way,the colorful civilizations of different regions around the world can communicate with each other and the development of world cultural diversity can be promoted,too.Secondly,with the continuous development of the world economy,people’s living standards are constantly improving,and the demand for tourism is increasing,too.Translating The Maya is helpful to promote the Chinese people to travel to South America,and to promote the development of related industries.This translation report can be divided into four parts,the first chapter is an introduction of this translation report.It describes the project background,the objectives,significance and structure of this translation report;the second chapter introduces the authorsand the contents of the source text,analyzes the type and the language features of the source text;the third chapter is the key chapter of this whole translation report,it shows readers the translation difficulties and translation methods,including the difficulties that the author have encountered during the process of translation,the introduction of the translation theories and the methods that the translator has adopted;the fourth chapter is the last part of this translation report,which is about the summary of the experience the translator have learned and provide a reference for the further practice in this area.
