Twilight series have integrated various touching elements,including vampire legend,werewolf story,campus life,horror & suspense and comedy& adventure,thus providing readers with a unique reading experience.Although the Twilight series could not completely be classified into post-modern work,it does not mean these novels do not possess post-modern factors or characteristics.This dissertation has interpreted the post-modern aesthetic characteristics of Twilight novels,including popularity,diversification and intrinsic features,and analyzed the profound culture root behind the novels.The Twilight series have intentionally or unintentionally catered to basic characteristics of post-modern work at multiple levels.Actually,they have conformed to the aesthetic values of post-modern work.This dissertation is arranged as five parts.The first part is the introduction to Twilight,which is subdivided into four small parts,including the introduction of Twilight,literature review,the definition of post-modern work and post-modern aesthetic features,and the purpose and framework of the dissertation.The second part,i.e.Chapter One,presents the post-modern aesthetic features of Twilight,including popularity,diversification and intrinsic features.The third part,i.e.Chapter Two,analyzes the artistic beauty in Twilight,including the beauty of gothic horror,the beauty of color,and the beauty of artistic conception of image.The fourth part,i.e.Chapter Three,presents women’s aesthetic needs in Twilight,including women’s aesthetic perception,women’s emotional appeal and women’s physical demands.By means of practicing the post-modern theory into the analysis of the aesthetic features in Twilight series,this dissertation hopes to provide some suggestions for future research into both Twilight novels and post-modern theories.
