This is a project report on the translation of Disaster Interventions and Humanitarian Aid Guidelines,Toolkits and Manual,which is written by Lena Dominelli--professor of Durham University.Based on contemporary disasters and catastrophes as well as the international context,this book provides principles and guidelines that aim to assist policymakers,practitioners,researchers and educators.This book from this point,is realistically meaningful and socially valuable in humanitarian aid and disaster interventions.This report translates the social scientific text in accordance with the guideline of skopos.In this report,the translator will analyze the translation strategies in lexical,sentence and discourse level.The report discusses corresponding solutions in lexical,sentence and discourse level under the guidance of skopos theory with the aim to achieve the best effect of the target language.As the core theory of functional theories of translation,skopos includes three principles,namely the principle of goal,coherence and fidelity.The translation in lexical level will be in line with fidelity principle,in sentence level will be based on fidelity and coherence principle and in discourse level will be in the light of coherence principle.This report includes four parts.The first part is the background information and the second part is the description of this report,and the third part is the case study of the key points of this report.The third part summarizes the problems and experience during this translation.By finding keys to those problems,the author is supposed to expose to a tremendous amount of valuable experience and knowledge.Meanwhile the author understands that translation is anything but easy.To be a professional translator,one needs to be proficient in English and has the ability to transform English to idiomatic Chinese.The differences between Chinese and English drive us to carry on a further research and study.When translation is actually initiated,translators are supposed to be adept in utilizing multiple tools such as dictionaries,internet and other tools to convey the original meaning of the target text.After the first translation is accomplished,translators should read through the translated version several times and be cautious in proofreading for many times in order to secure the high quality of translation.
