| Among family environment,parenting behavior adopted by parents is regarded as the most important factor that has been shown to influence creativity.And several key dimensions of parenting behavior have been studied,namely parental autonomy support,psychological control and behavioral control respectively.According to the exist findings,both parental autonomy support and behavioral control positively predicted creativity,whereas parental psychological control negatively predicted creativity.Some researchers pointed out that environment factors,such as parenting behavior,has impact on creativity by affect individuals? motivation,and previous research has suggested that autonomous motivation,in line with the Self-determination theory(SDT),mediated the relationship between parenting behavior and adolescents? creativity.Despite such progress,most research design in this area is cross-sectional,and the further test is needed.Therefore the present study adopted a longitudinal design to examine the important role of adolescents? autonomous motivation in the relations between parenting and creativity.A total of 263 Chinese adolescents in Jinan City,Shandong Province participated this study,and were evaluated at 2 time points.Participants completed the Parenting Measure and Academic Self-regulation Questionnaire at Time 1(Spring,2011),and completed the figural and figural DT tests(each containing three tasks)selected from Runco Creativity Assessment Battery Runco Creativity at Time 1 and again at Time 2(Spring,2012).Results showed that(1)Parental autonomy support and parental behavioral control was positively associated with creativity one year later,even after controlling for creativity at Time 1.(2)Adolescents? autonomous motivation served to completely mediate the associations between parental autonomy support,behavioral control and creativity.These findings extend previouscross-sectional studies by confirming the meditational role of autonomous motivation between parenting behavior and adolescents? creativity.(3)Parental autonomy support and parental behavioral control was positively associated with fluency and flexibility one year later,even after controlling for creativity at Time 1.;Adolescents? autonomous motivation served to completely mediate the associations between parental autonomy support,behavioral control and fluency and flexibility. |
