A Report On The Translation Of Articles Of Association Of ZY Company (Excerpt) With CAT Tools

The globalization of the capital marketplace and the pervasive use of information technology have obscured the lines between geographical borders.In addition,the favorable policies for commercial activities and taxation provided by other jurisdictions have proved increasingly attractive to Chinese businesses,so much so that more and more Chinese companies choose to register as offshore companies in those tax heaven places to enhance their international competitiveness as well as safeguard their own economic interests.In the process of preparing such a company,legal documents such as Articles of Association(Ao A)need to be drafted and translated.The Ao A shares most features of other legal texts,such as the use of typical legal language and abundance with professional terminologies.Meanwhile,the employment of plenty of jargon and argot enables translators to use the function of fuzzy match of certain CAT programs to accelerate its translation and guarantee its quality.This thesis is a report on the translation of Articles of Associations of a Chinese Education Company which intended to be registered in the Cayman Islands.It consists of four parts: Part One introduces the translation task and background information of the Ao A;Part Two is a discussion of the translation process,including the preparation stage and translation procedure with CAT tools;in Part Three,the author uses various examples to analyze her translation tactics;the last part concludes the report by summarizing what the author has learned from this translation practice.It is hoped that this translation practice and its report can contribute to the author’s better understanding of Ao A and its translation,and can prove useful to other translators who employ CAT tools to translate Articles of Association and other legal documents of a similar nature.It is expected to enrich the TranslationMemory and Glossary of Ao A in particular,and legal texts in general.
