Children’s literature plays an important role in the growth and study of children and it is an important means to cultivate children’s cognitive ability and thinking ability. The translated books of children’s literature can broaden children’s horizons and help them understand the cultures and customs of different countries. The particular readers of children’s literature require translators to both grasp its characteristics and master some translation theories and skills. This is a report on the translation of a part of Angus and Sadie, one of the novels written by Cynthia Voigt,a famous American children’s literature writer. The novel tells about the life experience of Angus and Sadie, two dogs,by expressing the idea that even two totally different creatures can become friends and shows how to get along with others, which is of great significance to the growth of teenagers. The story of Angus and Sadie is vivid and its language is simple and full of naivety. The translator of the project has chosen the first two chapters to translate.Based on the translation, the translation report is produced, which aims at exploring some practical methods of translating children’s literature and hopes to provide some references for further translation of children’s literature and its research. This translation report has five chapters in total.Chapter One is an overview of the project background, the project significance, purpose and the overall structure of the report.Chapter Two analyzes the features of children’s literature at lexical and syntactical levels.Chapter Three is an introduction of Skopostheories and its basic rules including Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.Chapter Four first analyzes the difficulties of translating the original text, then explores the methods of translation, including: amplification, omission, division and combination.Chapter Five is the conclusion, which summarizes the experience and reflections on the translation project.Besides, the limitations and some suggestions for further researches are also presented.
