Children literature in the literary system has long been marginalized. It does not get the attention it deserves. Generally speaking, translation studies of children’s literature in academia are at a lower status. Moreover, the current study of children literature translation mostly talks about children literature translation strategies and techniques from historical perspectives. German functionalist translation theory especially its core theory-skopostheorie stresses that translation purposes decide translation methods. The ultimate goal of children literature translation should be to the service of children. This requires these works to be translated on the basis of full understanding of the special nature of children literature and the adaptation of translation methods different from other methods and strategies. In the translation process, appropriate translation strategies taken in terms of vocabulary, syntax and structure have a direct impact on achieving this purpose. In this paper, some typical examples in life and adventure of the Santa Clause’s first two chapters are selected under teleological perspective to discuss some commonly used translation strategy.
