At present, the domestic research on the correlation between motivation and self-directed learning mostly based on classroom teaching. But few scholars pay close attention to the relationship between motivation and extracurricular autonomous learning behavior. In view of this situation,we conducted a questionnaire survey and interview of the intermediate level students in two universities, which attempts to answer the following three questions.(1)Whether is Chinese learning motivation related to extracurricular self-study consciousness, learning strategies and learning effect and how about their correlation degree?(2)Whether there is a significant difference of the correlation between different motivation and extracurricular autonomous learning consciousness, learning strategies and learning effect?(3)What is the correlation among extracurricular self-study consciousness, learning strategy, learning effect? Finally,we analyzed the questionnaire data with SPSS 19.The results showed that the situation of extracurricular autonomous learning of foreign students is more optimistic.Motivation and extracurricular self-study consciousness, learning strategies have different degree of correlation, motivation and learning effect is no direct correlation.Among them, the degree of correlation of internal motivation and instrumental motivation is higher than external motivation and achievement motivation of students. In terms of the correlation between different types of motivation and extracurricular autonomous learning strategies, the influence of internal motivation is significantly greater than that of achievement motivation.
