As is known to all,listening,speaking,reading and writing are the four core skills in English language learning.With the importance of English in people's daily life and communication,listening and speaking has more and more development potential.No matter from the angle of language teaching or language learning,we must place the stress on students' English listening and speaking training and developing,making sure the four skills keep the same pace with each other and promoting language communication.However,the listening and speaking teaching conditions in some vocational schools are not very pleasing;they have such problems as low status,low level source of students,weak faculty,imbalance between students' level and teaching materials,etc.In order to improve such situation,the author spent two semesters on listening and speaking teaching practice via film media based on English majors in S vocational school in Nantong.This research analyses the present situation of listening and speaking teaching in vocational schools and current trend of listening and speaking teaching,as well as the advantages of listening and speaking teaching via film media,with the guidance of four theories: input hypothesis,affective filter hypothesis,and constructivism,output hypothesis.It is centered on the following three questions: current condition and existing problems in listening and speaking teaching in vocational schools,implementation of listening and speaking teaching via film media,strategies of listening and speaking teaching in vocational schools.This paper mainly uses questionnaire survey,interviewing method and case analysis to collect record and analyze the whole process of listening and speaking teaching via film media.The author analyses the real teaching examples of listening and speaking teaching via film media from four different aspects: language situation,language culture,language skill,language form,and draws some strategies.What is found in the research is that students' current situation is not satisfying,they have some puzzles in phonetics,vocabulary,cross-culture communication,so during the teaching process,the author is required to summarize some strategies as sticking to be centered with students and guided by teachers,setting cross-culture communication,carrying out stratified teaching,paying attention to the balance of input and output,ensuring such teaching activities organized orderly.This research is aimed at carrying out listening and speaking teaching via film media and expecting it will inspire the following teaching activities in vocational schools with its experiences.
