Translation Difficulties And Strategies For Commercial Powerpoint Files

Powerpoint presentation plays an increasingly important role,especially in the international commercial context,whether for the purposes of company’s internal or external communication.To fulfill that role,the translator of powerpoint files needs to try to improve their translations as much as possible on the basis of knowing the text features of PPT files and applying accordingly different translation strategies.This thesis will,based on the writer’s translation projects,discuss a)how to cope with difficulties due to page size limitations,such as how to fit the translation texts into the space designated for the original text,b)how to better understand and translate the abbreviation of words and sentences used,and c)how to explicate logics not easily detected in the original texts to make the translation short yet right.The writer suggests to use the following three strategies in different conditions: deleting redundant information,catching contextual clues of words and making the unclear logic explicit.By conducting such analysis,the writer hopes this paper to be a good reference to other translators.
