The civil aircraft maintenance English is an important branch of civil Aviation English. It is of vital importance for civil aircraft maintenance students to have good English skills. The listening and speaking skills of civil aircraft maintenance students in secondary vocational schools cannot satisfy the requirements of the English syllabus, nor can they meet the civil aircraft maintenance industry needs. The lack of modern teaching methods in foreign language is one of the main factors, which result in the students' problems in listening and speaking in English. The study is to find out the feasibility and effectiveness of Task-based Language Teaching in civil aircraft maintenance English listening and speaking classes.Since the civil aircraft maintenance English is a branch of ESP(English for Specific Purposes),both target situation needs and learning needs of the students are taken into account in course design. To carry out this research,a class of thirty civil aircraft maintenance students in a secondary vocational school is chosen as a sample.Tests, questionnaires, interviews, teacher's observations and teacher's logs are used as research instruments. As a result,TBLT is a feasible and effective approach for civil aircraft maintenance English listening-speaking teaching.TBLT interests and motivates students to thrive in the English language and helps civil aircraft maintenance students of the secondary vocational school improve their English listening and speaking competence. The significance of this study is to apply the Task-based Language Teaching in listening-speaking classes in civil aircraft maintenance English course.Besides those traditional TBLT activities, with the help of modern computer based training devices, various practical activities are designed and implemented in VMT(Virtual Maintenance Trainer)classrooms for English classes. This study enriches the teaching methods in civil aircraft maintenance English listening and speaking classes in secondary vocational schools.
