Translation Report On The Pragmatics Of Translation (Excerpt) Based On Intertextuality Theory

Pragmatics belongs to a branch of linguistics without a long history.What the pragmatics studies is the practical language and the relationship between language and language users,which has broken the traditional theoretical framework of linguistics to explore the dynamic state of language,featuring practical value remarkably.The source text of this translation report is an excerpt from The Pragmatics of Translation edited by Leo Hickey,a research professor at the University of Salford.In line with Newmark’s text typology,texts can be broken down into expressive texts,informative texts and vocative texts.The source text belongs to informative text,focusing on transmitting information of the source text.The author,under the guidance of Basil Hatim’s intertextuality,employs the translation strategy of domestication and translation techniques of conversion,amplification,omission and analyzes the translation practice from three levels: lexical level,syntactic level and textual level to ensure that the translated version meet the needs of the target language readers.This translation report includes five parts.The first part is the introduction.The second part is the source text analysis,covering the content and language features of the source text.The third part is the theoretical framework.The fourth part is the corresponding translation techniques and case studies applied under the guidance of intertextuality.And the fifth part is the summary.On one hand,the translation project is aimed at summarizing what the author has learned and gained from the translation practice;on the other hand,the author wishes to make a slight contribution to those scholars engaged in translation teaching and theory research.
