Ritual Performance:A Study On The Participation Practice Of Cinephile At Shanghai International Film Festival

With the increasing diversity of cinephile’s consumption patterns,participation in the film festival has become an important cultural activity for the movie fandom.This study selected cinephile participating in the Shanghai International Film Festival as research subjects,and used participation in observations,in-depth interviews,and other research methods to explain the participation of cinephile in Shanghai International Film Festival,with the ritual view of communication,anthropological rituals,and"SPP" theories.The study aims to analyze the special significance of participating in Shanghai International Film Festival for cinephile.Firstly,this study analyzes the ritual characteristics of the Shanghai International Film Festival and participating process of cinephile(Chapter 2).Next,this study analyzes the two dimensions of offline viewing practice(Chapter 3)and online writing practice(Chapter 4),in order to analyze the relationship between the ritual participation in film festivals and cinephile identity performances.The study found that cinephile who went to film festivals to watch non-mainstream movies were performing a collective show and performing their own fandom identities that they had constructed in daily movie consumption.They also gained a sense of belonging through a collective viewing experience.Through adhering to,appealing for,and maintaining the "ceremonial manner" of film festivals,cinephile have demonstrated the status of senior "high-quality" fans who respect movies and have"high aesthetic taste" and "deep film knowledge." Through the "movie tagging" on Douban,showing their own movie lists in the "Douban City Community",and writing a personalized viewing experience,cinephile want to show a "personal aesthetic taste"of the fan image.Through the personalized film review and writing of the WeChat Monetary Circle,cinephile performed his identity as a "film communicator".Through the temptation and advocacy of the festival’s negative experiences,cinephile have identified themselves as "film festival builders",practiced their own imagination about international film festivals,and constructed a "cross-border cultural identity with a global background".Fans participate in the Shanghai International Film Festival and are an embodiment of Chinese fans’performances.
