| On the background of globalization,China’s comprehensive national strength and international influence had been enhanced gradually at an unprecedented rate,as a result,there are more and more people learning Chinese around the world.With the booming development of TCFL(Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language),the scale of TCFL is expanding.Textbooks of TCFL,as the main tool for foreigners to learn Chinese,its importance is becoming increasingly prominent.At present,the translation related to new words of China’s textbooks in primary period of TCFL usually uses English,A Course of Chinese(written by Yang Ji-zhou,published by Beijing Language University,1999),a well-recognized series of teaching materials,has been widely used throughout the years.The English definitions of the words in this course are detailed and complete but there still exists such problems as incorrect definitions and improper methods of defining.By classifying and summarizing the existing methods of English explanation and translation of new words in A Course of Chinese(elementary),combining translation theories to explore the advantages and disadvantages of the book,summarizing the inappropriate part of English annotation,this paper is written to figure out some specific methods to make up for it.Moreover,from the point of the contrast between English and Chinese,the thesis explores the reasons of the problems caused by improper annotation methods,and hopefully to find out possible corresponding solutions from the semantic,grammatical and pragmatic differences.This thesis is aimed to help the editors of the primary TCFL textbooks to adjust the strategies for the existing problems of new words translation in textbooks,and to improve the overall quality of primary TCFL textbooks so as to meet the needs of discipline construction and international promotion of Chinese language in the new period.This essay is divided into five chapters:Chapter Ⅰ is the introduction of the study which mainly introduce the reason and significance of the research,background,relevant translation theories and methodologies of the research.Chapter Ⅱ makes a detailed study of the English translation methods of new words in A Course of Chinese(book1,2),classifying and summarizing the existing annotation methods of the textbook,and puts forward some concrete supplementary methods.Chapter Ⅲ discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the method in combination with the translation theory and explores the causes and problems of the new words English annotation problem in TCFL textbooks from the linguistic point of comparison,mainly from the semantic,syntactic and pragmatic differences.Chapter Ⅳ combs and summarizes the conclusion and the improvement method of English annotation of new words in teaching materials and considers to translate the new words from three angles of semantics,grammar and pragmatics,plus the perspective of teachers and foreign students to find out the corresponding solutions.Chapter Ⅴ is a conclusion of the research and summarizes the shortcomings and innovations of the essay. |
