The source text(ST)of the translation report is the section one and section two of Chapter Five of Game Localization: Translation for the Global Digital Entertainment Industry,the authors of which are Minako O’Hagan and Carmen Mangiron,famous professors respectively from Dublin City University and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.First of all,the chosen text compares the game culture between Japan and America.Then it introduces the related operations in the cultural adjustment in game localization: the obligatory requirement in game localization,game rating system and game censorship.The ST is characterized by abundant professional terms and abstract nouns,and also a great number of long and complex sentences dominated by attributive clauses and adverbial clauses.According to Katrina Reiss’ text typology and Newmark’s Communicative Translation theory,the ST is an informative text,which focuses on the content with the aim of conveying information to the readership.When translating the informative text,the translator should pay attention to the accuracy and readability of the TT.Under the guidance of relevant theories,as regards the professional vocabularies and long and complex sentences,the translator takes the translation skills of shift of part of speech,inversion,division,amplification and omission.The translator wishes to shed some light on translating the game localization text by making this report.
