Urban Residents' Level Of Social Class And Lesisure Time

Since the 21 st century, with the improvement of people's living standards, residents' demand for leisure activities is also growing. However, people's choices to take part in leisure time have obvious differences.What causes these differences? From the perspective of social stratification, this paper study the relationship between the level of social class and leisure time of urban residents.Based on the data from Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS) 2013,this paper use quantitative methods to analyze the relationship between the level of social class and leisure time of urban residents.Firstly, the characteristics of urban residents' leisure time were analyzed with descriptive statistic.So did the relationship between urban residents' level of social class and the differences of leisure time.Secondly, this paper used the method of Multiple linear regression to study if urban residents' level of social class had effects on leisure time.During this statistic,four models were established. The first model adopted individual factors as independent variables. And the second model adopted the level of the education as independent variables on the basis of the first model.While the third model adopted the level of income as independent variables on the basis of the second model. And the fourth model adopted identification of social class as independent variables on the basis of the third model.Thirdly, path analysis model were established to analyze the effects of urban residents' level of social class on leisure time, and to explore the mediating role of class identification between the factors of objective class rating and leisure time.The conclusions of this paper are as follows: First, urban residents' level of social class and the differences of leisure time are relevant. Second, urban residents' level of social class has a significant effect on leisure time. Third, urban residents' classidentification has weak intermediary role in the objective class rating and leisure time.The significance of this paper is offering a new perspective of studying leisure time or lifestyle. However, this paper has limitations. The reliability of urban residents' class identity data needs a further exploration. The level of class identity's influence on urban residents' leisure time needs a further exploration,too.
