With the development of the subject of modern mathematics and the education of mathematics, the mathematics application to people's daily life has been increasingly important.Chinese course standard requests to put "mathematical modelling set-up"into classes at school.Mathematical modelling aims at practical problems in life, from abstracting to modeling, from the solution to modelling to the verification for workability, hence its final solution could be used to explain practical problems.Gender differentiation of mathematical capability of students has been a popular topic for a long time in the field of mathematical education research.Additionally,in other mathematical capabilities, there has been found of certain degree of difference between male and female students. This study aims mainly at:What is current situation in the three regions on the high-school students'capability of mathematical modelling set-up?Is there any gender differentiation on the students'modelling capability?Do external features of mathematical modelling problems affect the performance of their modelling? Is there any difference on the achievement and performance by different genders of students? The thesis consist of five parts:Executive summary, including proposal of problems, research benefits and explanation of problems.Literature introduction, including clarification of key definitions of theresearch, domestic and international materials on mathematical modelling and related gender differentiationResearch design and procedure, including sample selection, questionnaire, sampling execution and data coding standardizationResults anddiscussion, where key questions to the research will be answered, through data description and statistical testingConclusion andrecommendation, including key research conclusion(based on Chapter 4)and recommendation on mathematical modeling education and the issues of modelling set-up.
