As the rudiment of music,language has been closely related to music since the ancient time.We can say that music is the art of singing and dancing developing on the basis of language.The poems of ancient times was performed and inherited through the form of singing in royal palaces.The time-honored culture of folk songs in our country was created on the basis of language by people in working and social life.Nowadays,music has become increasingly specialized and with this tendency,the art forms like singing,piano playing and dancing begin to appear on stages and TV,so much so that these so-called music performing form make music become the “exclusive preference” of a small group of people.But we shouldn't forget that music is suppose to serve all the common people,so music should exist as a form that can be readily accepted by the public.The same can be said of the music education for children.During the beginning of the compulsory education(the middle and lower grades in primary schools),according to the new curriculum standard,music lessons should aim at cultivating the comprehensive quality of the students.Hence a new teaching approach that combines language arts and music,represented by “singing the ancient poems”,make its appearance.“Singing the ancient poems” is to present the culture of Chinese ancient poems by singing them,which is the most direct form to combine language arts with music.The effect of“poems and music complement each other” is achieved by combining the original rhythm of poems with the beat of music in teaching.Compared with “singing ancient poems”,as another pattern of combining language arts with music,teaching of traditional Chinese opera is a more comprehensive artistic form.The best representative is the language art in the spoken parts in the operas.The spoken parts can be performed alone and in most cases,they are performed with the rhythm of gong and drum or the accompanying music.The author practiced teaching in the Experimental Primary School of Hongqi District of Xinxiang City in person,designed the new class teaching example and compare and analyze the teaching result,aiming at the current teaching situation of the two forms.There are six parts in the paper.Firstly,the purpose and significance of the chosen topic are illustrated in the part of introduction.The first chapter explains the necessity of combining language art with music.The second chapter states the teaching situation of using “singing ancient poems” in the ExperimentalPrimary School of Hongqi District of Xinxiang City and the teaching practice of the author.The third chapter states the teaching situation of traditional Chinese opera in the Experimental Primary School of Hongqi District of Xinxiang City and the teaching practice of the author.The fourth chapter is mainly about the significance of applying the combination of language art and music in the music education of the medium and lower grades of primary schools.Moreover,the author comes up with her reflection of the current teaching situation.Both “singing the ancient poems” and the teaching of traditional Chinese opera accord with the psychology and comprehensive ability of the students of the middle and lower grades in primary schools.They can make students participate in the class teaching in person to experience and feel the music so as to obtain the teaching objectives of improving the comprehensive quality of students.Nowadays,the teaching approach that combines language art with music has been gradually accepted and adopted by educators and as music teachers,we are supposed to try to make it become mature and perfect through practice and exploration for a long time.
