A Research On The South Asian Students' Cross-cultural Adaption Of D University

Under the background of globalization and the rapid development of Chinese economy,and with the improvement of China's international influence,more and more overseas students come to China to study.They leave their own hometown which they are familiar with and come to a totally new country which makes them to face a different kind of culture environment.For them,cross-culture adaption is a challenge they may face.D university,which is located in southwest of China and near to South Asia,has high quality of medical education that attracts a large number of South Asian students for study medicine there.To a certain extent,there are some differences from South Asian culture to Chinese culture,this thesis focuses on how the International students deal with the matter of cross-culture adaption.A questionnaire and an interview is used as the research methods in this study,in order to know the situation of South Asian students' study well and their life situation in D university.The questionnaire includes the reasons why these overseas students choose to study in China,the conditions of adaption to local living life,the conditions of participation in local life and culture,the conditions of their social support net,how the evaluate the educational environment of D university and what they have learned from overseas studying.The interview,presenting the cross-culture adaption situation of South Asian students from three aspects,they are normal life adaption,study adaption and interpersonal communication adaption,combining related cross-culture adaption theories as well as Chinese and South Asian culture backgrounds.The results of this study finds out the influence factors of their adaption,which helps to give suggestions of the cross-culture adaption improvement ability for South Asian students.The research results the following three points: first,South Asian students have adaption problems in local weather,food,life style and university management system in southwest China.Second,overseas students have adaption problem in study when they communicates with Chinese teacher.Third,South Asian students have difficulties in entering the mainstream of Chinese society.In the end of this Thesis,the author puts forward some suggestions on how to improve overseas students' cross-culture adaption ability,such as cultivating cross-culture communication ability of overseas students,improve their Chinese level.As for the universityside,the incrimination management could be used for helping the international students to improve their adaption ability and enhance South Asian students' social support in local place.
