Rhetoric is beneficial to the promotion of language quality and make the expression more vivid,appropriate,and more meaningful,the use of English rhetoric adds color to the ideas.There are many rhetorical expressions in high school English textbooks.However,the students relatively seldom consciously use the common English rhetoric.It indicates that currently the emphasis on rhetoric in senior high school English teaching needs to be further strengthened and the cultivation of students' rhetorical sense and rhetorical ability needs to be improved.In this study,the author used the literature,questionnaire and experimental research methods in the exploration of how to cultivate senior high school students ' rhetorical sense and rhetorical ability in English teaching.This research investigates English rhetoric teaching and learning status of high school English teachers and students in Tengzhou C ity.Some problems were found,For example,some teachers did not pay enough attention to English rhetoric teaching,and students did not know much about English rhetoric knowledge.The author intends to use the rhetoric existing in the high school English textbooks of the People's Education Press as a basis to statistically analyze the rich variety of common rhetoric distributions in the book.Based on Gagne's cumulative learning theory,transfer learning theory and Ausubel's cognitive assimilation theory,the design proposal of rhetoric teaching in high school English is proposed.The author then applies them in the teaching practice and makes a preliminary exploration of the feasibility via an experiment.The experiment uses the methods of pretest and post-test in the experimental class and the control class.The author analyses frequency and accuracy of the students' rhetorical language usage and the resulting score,and the experiment verifies the effectiveness of this instructional design in which teachers consciously guide the students to recognize,identify,appreciate,imitate and use the rhetorical devices from the viewpoint of rhetoric.So this will have a beneficial bearing on cultivating students' rhetorical awareness and ability.In this research,the author investigated the current situation of high school English rhetoric teaching.The result of the experiment proves that the proposed instructional design helps to cultivate senior high school students' rhetorical awareness and rhetorical ability.Through this research,teachers can recognize the importance of teaching English rhetoric and overcome the shortcomings in the respect of the actual teaching of rhetoric.We hope it can also help students analyze and understand the texts from multiple perspectives and actually experience the beauty of English language,so as to promote the humanistic literacy of students.
