Qianyang Dialect Speech Research

Qianyang County, administered by Baoji city, is located on the east of central Shaanxi Plain, adjacent to Lingtai County, Gansu Province in the north. It stretches 45 kilometers from south to north and 40 kilometers from east to west. Since the Chinese reforming and opening up, a new look and great achievement are witnessed during the research of Shaanxi dialect. However, phonologic research of Qianyang dialect can only be seen in the dialect chapter of its county annals, and the remaining is just mentioned as general background introduction in the research about central Shaanxi Plain or West Shaanxi. So the phonologic features of Qianyang dialect has not be studied in detail.Five chapters are included in this thesis:Introduction, Phonology Analysis of Qianyang Dialect, Homophone Collection Qianyang Dialect, Synchronic Phonetic of Qianyang Dialect, Phonologic Features of Qianyang Dialect by Comparison with Ancient China Phonology.Chapter one is the introduction of human geography, history, population of Qianyang County, purpose and research method of this thesis.Chapter two is the phonetic analysis of Qianyang dialect. In this chapter, the thesis firstly introduces the differences in initials, finals, monosyllabic intonation on the basis of present study to Qianyang dialect. Then a verification and complementary study is conducted combined with praat speech analysis software which includes the experimental analysis to monosyllabic tones and monosyllabic vowels of Qianyang dialect. At last, the thesis provides a monosyllabic tones and phonetic system list that relatively can represent the features of Qianyang dialect. Chapter three is homophone collection of Qianyang dialect.Chapter four is about synchronic phonetic sandhi which mainly introduces tone sandhi between two characters and tone sandhi adjective reduplication and noun reduplication.Chapter five is about phonologic features of Qianyang dialect by comparison with ancient China phonology which includes comparison between initials, finals and intonations. In the end, the literary reading and colloquial reading of Qianyang dialect is also introduced.This thesis makes an accurate and detailed description of Qianyang dialect by the method of experimental phonetics and field investigation, synchronic aspect and diachronic aspect. First, depend on the comprehensive field investigation previously, uses the experimental phonetics to study the vowels and tones of the Qianyang dialect. Secondly, we also make detailed description and deeply study from the synchronic aspect and diachronic aspect. During the research, also uses many previous theroies, such as the stacked sound theroy and neutral tone therory.Hope that these studies can not only lay foundation for studying vocabulary and grammar of Qianyang dialect, but also improve the dialect study in Qin-Long area or even the Central Plains.
