Discourse markers in speech communication is the special pragmatic component which be used by speakers to show their views and attitudes,its in-depth study would help to understand the people’s cognitive psychology,and could be more scientific to explain the process of discourse and understanding of the construction.Discourse markers make the discourse more coherent,so in proper use of discourse markers can improve the efficiency of verbal communication.Therefore,the research on discourse markers is significant.This article makes other words-DMs as the research object which is going to show the current situation of teaching other words-DMs in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from the perspective of mandarin teaching in South Africa,analyze the definition,classification and functions of other words-DMs,showing the practical teaching status about them and put forward some feasible suggestions about how to teach after analyzing the reasons.The introduction part described the reasons and the significance of selecting this topic,showed the domestic and international research of other words-DMs in the situation and point out the deficiencies,and also the whole research frame.We use the corpus from HSK dynamic composition corpus and Chinese Corpus Linguistics research center of Peking University,using the methods of Corpus Analysis and Class View to analyze this object.The first chapter we gave the definition of other words-DMs:The other words-DMs are the language expressions which can help people understand the discourses,they are independent on syntax,have no special regularity with forms,but have the same positions which exist in the two fragments that have same meaning.And also the classifications and functions of them based on the result we concluded from the corpus analyzing.The second chapter showed the current teaching situation of other words-DMs in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from oral and written language,considering two different aspects of teachers and learners.Meanwhile,after analyzing with the corpus,we find out the reasons why learners would make mistakes on this issues are because they don’t know when to use them or they combine more than one other words-DMs at the same time to make the sentences confusing.In the third part,we put forward some advice about how to teach foreigners learn the other words-DMs in Chinese from three aspects based on the result from our analysis about the current learning situation of South African students.The last part is conclusion,which clarified the main innovation of this paper and the presence of some of the limitations specified for the future direction and research.
