As a special development period in the history of our country, the Republican period also reflect its distinctive characteristics on education. Western modern teaching methods were introduced to our country constantly in the early years of the Republican period. Meanwhile, the reform of modern teaching methods also emerged endlessly. Project method as one of the important teaching method active in the 1920s,which should not be ignored. Its propagation and experiment in Jiangsu region as a stronghold to spread this method in our country also should be reckoned.This paper chooses experiments of Project method as its research object and in accordance with its developmental sequence. Furthermore, it uses literature analysis method, historical research method, comparative research method and so on. It is based on the analysis of this teaching method's spread and experiment. By analyzing some typical school experiments, this paper reviews the historical situation of Project method in Jiangsu region. It also reproduces the entire transmission and experimental process, which is from cautious, radical, to steady reform. This paper can be divided into five parts:The introduction part mainly introduces the reason why choose this topic, the related concept definition, domestic research situation and trend, the research methods and so on.The first chapter mainly discusses the attempt of academia and analyzes problems on education during this period, the efforts of many parties and the main performance of this method when Project method was introduced to our country between 1914 and 1919. We can find that academia urgently want to reform teaching method.The second chapter mainly discusses Project method in the period from 1919 to 1924. During this period, academic circles advocated it and made numerous experiments. What's more, this part highlights prosperity and influence of Project method in Jiangsu region. Exploration that educational circles made can be divided into two parts: theory aspect and practice aspect. Educational circles have gained distinctive achievements not only in theoretical aspect but also in practical aspect.Theory aspect mainly focused on the origin of Project method and the analysis of this teaching theory. Practice aspect is mainly experiments, which made mostly in normal attached primary school, such as Nanjing Advanced Normal Attached Primary School,Jiangsu No.1 Normal Attached Primary School.The third chapter mainly researches the attempts after 1924 the educational circles made to establish Project method with Chinese feature and puts an emphasis on the changing understanding to Project method, which is the shift from enthusiastically praise to calm analysis. After recognizing this importance, scholars put their idea into practical work and effort, such as a characteristic comparative experiment in Wuxi Normal Attached Primary School, etc.The conclusion part summarizes why Project method is not applicable in our country, and comments on it by our country's educational scholars.
