Nowadays, researches on the carbonate rocks mainly focus its on porosity characteristics, contained organic carbon and oil-gas storage, also its petrological features, sedimentary facies and geochemical characteristics, while researches on the decorative stone are fewer, and much fewer researches on geological and geochemical characteristics of stone have been done. The paper takes Woodgrain of Guizhou Province and sandstone Woodgrain of Sichuan Province as study samples,on the basis of former researches and data.Through the analysis and researches of marble,White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain and Trump Woodgrain,on characteristics of Regional geological background, deposits, combining characteristics of ore and mineral, chemical composition, stone quality of Woodgrain in southwest China has been studied, and the main achievements and results are as follows:?1?Through mineralogical researches on White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain and Trump Woodgrain, the White Woodgrain was found as a dolomitic limestone,Athens Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain were dolomite, the Black Woodgrain was limestone, and the Trump Woodgrain was feldspar quartz sandstone. The light color layer of White Woodgrain is maily composed of dolomite, while the dark layer is mainly composed of mudstone calcite and clay minerals and so on.The light color layers of Athens Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain are all composed of dolomite, while their dark layers consist of dolomite, clay minerals, opaque minerals, etc. The light color layer of the Black Woodgrain is maily made up of Calcite, while the dark layer is made up of calcite, clay minerals, opaque minerals, etc. The clay minerals, organic matter and iron oxide content of Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain,White Woodgrain changes from high to low.?2?Through major elements analysis on White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain and Trump Woodgrain,White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain were found that their sum contents of CaO and MgO are almost equal and the largest;Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain are larger;the Trump Woodgrain contains few.The content of oxides such as SiO2?Al2O3?TFe2O3?K2O?Na2O shows a certain regularity, and the order of their contents from high to low are Trump wood, black wood, blue wood, yellow wood,Athens wood and white wood. The content of white wood and athens wood is no big difference.TFe2O3?K2O?Na2O?MnO?P2O5?Al2O3 are generally easy to enrich in iron mud and clay minerals represented terrestrial components. Those in Black Woodgrain are higher, followed by Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain;White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain are the lowest and the contents of the two have no big difference. This indicates that the content of terrestrial components in White Woodgrain and Athens Woodgrain is very low,and the degree of influence or reconstruction by land-source materials is minimal in sedimentation and diagenesis, followed by the Yellow Woodgrain and Blue Woodgrain, while that of Black Woodgrain is to the opposite.?3?In carbonate rocks, trace elements of Black Woodgrain is richest, followed by Blue Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain, and the content of trace element in White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain have no big diffenerce. The overall trend of the trace element original mantle standardization curves of these Woodgrain is left high and right low. There are differences between different kinds of Woodgrain. However,as a whole, the trends of the curves are similar. The trend and content of Athens wood grain and white wood grain are almost the same, indicating that they may have similar properties.White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain were deposited in the salt water marine environment, while the Trump Woodgrain deposited in the fresh terrestrial environment. The paleoenvironment and paleoclimate of all Woodgrain are hypoxic-anaerobic conditions and dry-hot climate conditions,respectively.?4?The total content of rare earth elements in Trump Woodgrain is the highest, followed by Black Woodgrain is richest, followed by Blue Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain. The total contents of rare earth elements??REE?of White Woodgrain,Athens Woodgrain,Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain and Blue Woodgrain are within the total content of REE(?REE=100×10-6)in marine carbonate rocks, indicating that they are marine carbonate rocks. The distribution pattern of rare earth elements is that LREE and HREE differentiation is obvious,LREE presenting right tilt,HREE being relatively flat, rich in LREE,and poor in HREE relatively. The distribution curves of rare earth elements are basically the same, indicating that their causes may have certain similarities. The?Eu of Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain and Trump Woodgrain are negative anomaly??Eu<1?,indicating that they formed at the passive continental margin. The of?Ce Yellow Woodgrain,Black Woodgrain,Blue Woodgrain and Athens Woodgrain are are positive anomaly??Ce<1?,indicatin that the deposition environment was anoxic.?5?According to the EDS element surface scanning characteristics of the Woodgrain, the content of elements in the light and dark layers of the wood grain is different;and the content of aluminum, silicon, magnesium, iron, and potassium in the dark grain layer is higher than that in the light color layer.?6?The color, pattern, gloss, hardness, mechanical properties, water absorption, and radioactivity of Woodgrain are mainly affected by the mineral composition, structures, and its chemical composition, while the rate of quarrystone and material rate are mainly affected by tectonic fissure of mineral deposits.
