Guided by geological theories,constrained by the concept of sustainable development of resources and environment,relied on the project organized by Sichuan Province Science and Technology Department “Study on Marble Genetic Types and Resources Potential in Ya'an”,the master thesis studied the marble mines with an abundant production located at Shimian and part of Baoxing.In the study,we investigated the local geological settings of the mines and their productions in practical,and further detected the genetic type of the marble and make an assessment of their resources potential.To do so,the thesis selected three targeted marble mines as samples,which are 1)Shixin marble mine in Shimian area,2)the Huaxi marble mine in Baoxing area,and 3)the Sanxing marble mine in Longdong Xiaogou.All the three mining sites share the same geological settings of Ya'an area,and the ore deposits seem to have the same origin.The thesis detailed studied the geological characteristics of marble deposits in each sample mine,by analysing the ore-bearing horizons,ore body characteristics,ore and surrounding rock characteristics.The respective stone characteristics of marble have also been described.We ultimately comprehensively examined the genetic type of marble(stone)by a serials method,including study the spatial distribution of ore,tectonic background of deposits,geological site and ore-bearing horizons.The relationship between stone types and mineralisation environments in different mines was additionally analysed.According to the study,we estimated the marble reserves and the potential production in Ya'an area,and suggest a rational use of marble resources at the current stage.Based on the national policies and regulations and the marble industry in Ya'an,we further discussed the solution and feasibility of mining to natural ecological environment protection.Our study shows that the marble-origin type carbonate in this area are recrystallised by regional metamorphism and are then strongly affected by multiplestages of low-temperature dynamic metamorphism.We propose a considerable amount of marble resources reserves and a massive potential for industrial development in Ya'an area;However,sustainable environmental development is the priority when solving the contradiction between marble mining and the ecological environment.
