In recent years, the phenomenon of "watching sea in the city" has emerged in many cities of China. The water ecology and environment have attracted attention of more countries and urban constructors.Under such circumstance, the construction of sponge city in our country is carried out in full swing.Upon a large number of previous studies on regional rainwater management, this paper selects Suzhou as the main research object in order to choose suitable technology for Suzhou construction among all the rainwater management technologies home and abroad to provide reference technology for the construction of Suzhou sponge city. With this purpose, the paper first introduces the theories and cases related torainwater’s management home and abroad through case study, foreign literatureresearch, field investigation and experience summarization and to clarify therainwater management technology and its influential factors through the translation and reviewing of rainwater management technology in Maryland,Maine and Georgia as well as the comparison and summarization between China’s national standard rainwater management technology and the regional rainwater management technology in Shanghai and Nanjing. At last among these technologies to choose the national common technology suitable for Suzhou and the technology which needs improvement according to regional characters and the technology that is not recommended on the basis of Suzhou’s specific climate, soil, rainfall, groundwater level and water environment factors. In addition,to provide suggestions that the rainwater management in Suzhou should focus on the water quality management supplemented by water quantity management with prior consideration of rainwater purification, storage and drainage measures of excessive rain accompanied by recycling and retention equipment with less rainwater infiltration facilities. It is hoped that thecontradiction of "useless of excessive water" and "water being contaminated and hard to permeate" can be solved by the technical means full of natural, ecological and landscape aesthetic value.
