The thermal characteristics of metal materials include elastic modulus, density and Poisson’s ratio, which are sensitive to temperature changes. When these parameters change, the hardness and strength of metal materials will change accordingly, which will directly affect the service life of metal parts in industrial production. Therefore,it is very important to characterize and analyze the thermal characteristic parameters of metal materials with the change of temperature. However, the traditional thermal analysis technology has some disadvantages, such as not being able to measure in real time in the process of temperature change, requiring low temperature of the metal material to be measured, insufficient intelligence in data record storage, and failing to meet the requirements of automation and intellectualization in current industrial production and scientific research. In order to better solve these problems, this paper presents a method to characterize and analyze the thermal characteristics of metal materials using ultrasonic guided waves, and designs an ultrasonic characterization and analysis system that can be used to detect the thermal characteristics of metal materials under high temperature environment. In addition to the advantages of high sensitivity, high detection efficiency and strong anti-interference ability, the system designed in this paper can still detect the metal material when it is under high temperature environment and collect the thermal characteristic parameters of the metal material in real time. The theoretical research basis of this paper mainly includes: 1.Temperature measurement based on the principle of ultrasonic guided wave;2.The metal material’s elastic modulus, density,Poisson’s ratio and other thermal characteristics can be obtained by the propagation speed of ultrasonic wave in metal materials.Based on the above theoretical basis,an ultrasonic characterization and analysis system for the thermal properties of metal materials is designed in this paper. The system consists of hardware platform and software platform. The hardware platform includes FPGA module, ultrasonic transmission module,band-pass filter module, gain adjustment module and USB data transmission module, which realizes the control of double-channel data acquisition,two-channel A/D conversion,four-channel D/A conversion,FIFO storage,USB transmission and other functions. The software platform is built based on LabVIEW software. The whole software platform realizes the overall control of the hardware platform, including setting various parameters, control command transmission, data transmission and storage, calculation, analysis and display of collected data and other functions. In this paper, the experiment was carried out with TUO anoxic copper as the experimental sample. The experimental verification shows that the system designed in this paper can measure the temperature and the elastic modulus of TUO oxygen-free copper at the same time from room temperature to 1000C.
