As as the third economic growth pole of the country, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has an average regional GDP of 268.6 billion yuan in 2017,and the per capita GDP has reached an average of 97,000 yuan. However, heavy industry in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region accounts for a large proportion, and resources and environmental conditions are not prominent, this makes the contradiction between subsequent economic growth and resources and environmental carrying capacity begin to emerge.Especially since 2013,heavy air pollution took place frequently in this region, which affected a lot on people's daily work and life,so it is the real time for us to pay enough attention to the environmental problems.Under this circumstance,it is particularly important to study the relationship and mutual influence between economic growth and air quality, and promote regional green development. This thesis first combs the related theory and literature summary,it is found that the research on the relationship between economic growth and environmental quality began to form and develop as early as the 1980 s,Chinese scholars also began to study the correlation between these two at the end of the last century. In order to conduct a more in-depth study of the relationship between economic growth and environmental quality, the EKC is combined with the model to visually and quantitatively analyse the linear relationship and mutual influence between the two.It is found that there is an inverted "U" shaped curve relationship between economic growth and environmental quality.According to different research objects, the shape of the curve will change differently, and there is a turning point where the shape of the curve changes. However,in the theoretical research, there are still relatively few quantitative studies on economic growth and environmental quality in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, this thesis focuses on quantitative research in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.Next, this thesis gives a basic description of the economic growth and air quality of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region during 2006-2017,then finds that GDP and per capita GDP in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region are on the rise. The development of the three major industries is in line with the normal development law.Among them,Beijing has gradually developed into the tertiary industry as the main supporting industry, while Tianjin and Hebei are still dominated by the secondary industry. The development trend of air pollutant emissions is large in Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei, among which Hebei is more prominent.Whether it is sulfur dioxide emissions, nitrogen oxide emissions or smoke(powder)dust emissions,Hebei is the largest of the three regions, and is fluctuant in the emissions trends. In contrast,Beijing and Tianjin emissions are not volatile, but overall decline. The development of air quality has shown a downward trend. In particular, after 2013,the number of air quality standards has plummeted.Although it has increased year by year,it has risen slowly and has a certain gap with the level before 2013.Finally,on the basis of the previous research, this thesis selects the per capita GDP and air quality to reach or better than the second-level days as an indicator to measure the economic growth and air quality of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei,and constructs the environmental quality Kuznet of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei.The curve model empirically analyzes the relationship between air quality and economic growth in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei from 2006 to 2017,then this thesis calculates the inflection point of air quality changes. The factors affecting air quality were studied by selecting industrial structure, population density, urban built-up area and urban green coverage rate as control variables. The study found that the environmental Kuznets curve of air quality in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region was inverted “N” type but did not reach the inflection point. The industrial structure has a negative impact on air quality.Population density, urban built-up area and urban greening degree have positive effects on air quality improvement. However, the improvement of urban greening degree has no significant effect on air quality improvement. Finally several suggestions for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region are proposed.
