Objective: To observe the level of 25 hydroxy Vitamin D [25-(OH)D] in the serum of Type 2 diabetic nephropathy patients and to investigate the correlation between the severity of Type 2 diabetic nephropathy and the 25-(OH)D level. Methods : Sixty patients with type 2 diabetics were selected as the experiment group, who were divided into three groups according to the urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER),including normal proteinuria group(20 cases),microalbuminuria group(20 cases)and massive proteinuria group(20 cases).Meanwhile,20 cases of healthy volunteers were selected as the controls,The correlation analysis of various indicators, such as 25-(OH)D,creatinine(Cr),blood urea nitrogen(BUN),BUN level and 25-(OH)D was carried out on the groups above. Results: It was found that the level of 25-(OH)D of the control group was higher than the patients in the experiment group, and the patients with massive proteinuria were significantly higher than that of the normal proteinuria group and the microalbuminuria group(P < 0.05).The UAER level of the control group were significantly higher than that of microalbuminuria group and massive proteinuria group(P < 0.05).and the levels of UAER increased in the following order: the proteinuria group, microalbuminuria group, and massive proteinuria group. The Level of Cr and BUN in the group with massive proteinuria were the highest, and there were significantly higher than that of normal proteinuria group, microalbuminuria group and control group(P < 0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that 25-(OH)D appeared to have an obviously inverse correlation with levels of Cr,BUN and UAER.Conclusions: The level of 25-(OH)D which was negatively correlated with the severity of the disease, was markedly reduced in patients with type 2 diabetics nephropathy.
