Objectives: To explore the relationship between thoracic spine bone mineral density and lumbar spine bone mineral density in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)compared with healthy people. Methods: From September 2015 to September 2016,38 patients with the stable stage of COPD who were followed by epidemiological investigation in our hospital were experimental group,at the same time,we selected 30 healthy peers who had a healthy physical examination in our hospital as control group.A questionnaire was used to record the general situation of all subjects, including age, sex, height, weight, smoking history, and the use of glucocorticoid drugs. The thoracic spine bone mineral density and lumbar spine bone mineral density of person in experimental group and control group were measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Results: The lumbar spine bone mineral density of patients with COPD was less than the same age healthy control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).Thoracic spine bone mineral density of patients with COPD was less than the same age healthy control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).The difference between lumbar spine bone mineral density and thoracic spine bone mineral density in COPD group compared with those in healthy control group was no statistically significant(P >0.05).Conclusions: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can lead to the decrease of bone mineral density, the bone mineral density of thoracic spine and lumbar vertebrae are lower than those of healthy subjects, but there is no significant difference in the degree of decline.
