Aim:To study the general clinical characteristics of patients of the early gastric cancer associated with gastric xanthelasma, and explore its clinical significance. Methods:A total of 51780 non-cancer patients(the first time to do a gastroscope)were collected from January 2009 to June 2017 in our digestive endoscopy center(excluding the esophagus cancer, gastric cancer, duodenal tumor and radiotherapy and chemotherapy after the operation),including528 cases of gastric xanthelasma. And the patients, age was greater than or equal to forty years old.The 179 patients of early gastric cancer did their first gastroscopy in our study. The clinical date of 179 patients of early gastric cancer were retrospectively analyzed. We divided the early gastric cancer patients into two groups:associated with gastric xanthelasma group and non-associated with gastric xanthelasma group, and study the general clinical features of two groups of patients, such as age, gender, the degree of gastric atrophy and Helicobacter pylori infection, and also study the distribution of early gastric cancer associated with gastric xanthelasma in the stomach. Results:There were 49 gastric xanthelasmas in early gastric cancer patients(27.4%),while 528 in non-cancer patients(1.0%)(P < 0.0001).The ratio of early gastric cancer associated with gastric xanthelasma patients was greater than non-cancer patients. The appearance of gastric xanthelasma was positively correlated with the early gastric cancer. There were 40 cases male gender(81.6%)and 37 cases Helicobacter pylori infection(75.5%)in early gastric cancer associated with gastric xanthelasma group, while 86 cases male gender(66.2%)and 77 cases Helicobacter pyloriinfection(59.3%)without gastric xanthelasma(P < 0.05).The ratio of male gender and Helicobacter pylori infection in early gastric cancer associated with gastric xanthelasma groupwas greater thanpatients without gastric xanthelasma group. There was no significantly difference in age in two groups(P>0.05).There were 27 cases patients of early gastric cancer associated with gastric xanthelasma whose lesions were in the same position, while 22 cases patients, lesions were not in the same position(P < 0.05).The proportion of early gastric cancer associated with gastric xanthelasma in the same area were found to be much higher than that of being not in same area.Early gastric cancer may easily occur in the periphery of gastric xanthelasma. Conclusion:Gastric xanthelasma often coexist with early gastric cancer,Gastric xanthelasma may be a warning sign for the presence of early gastric cancer.
