OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the relationship between peripheral blood interleukin(IL)-17,transforming growth factor(TGF)-β1 levels and recurrence of wheezing episodes in infants with acute bronchiolitis.METHODS: 76 children with Bronchiolitis were taken as experimental group as well as 20 healthy children who were taken as the control group. All patients were divided into a common group and severe group.Passive smoking,Breast-feeding,Birth weight, manner of birth were investigated in study patients. The concentration of IL-17,TGF-β1 in serum were determined by ELISA.The pat-ients were followed for a year, record the frequency of wheezing, and analyze the risk factors for post-bronchiolitis wheezing.RESULTS: 1.The serum level of IL-17 in common group and severe group wer-e significantly higher than that in the control group(13.10±5.40pg/ml verse 9.92±4.71 pg/ml,18.16±5.49pg/ml verse 9.92±4.71pg/ml,P<0.05,respectively).2.The serum level of IL-17 in severe group were much higher than in common group(18.16±5.49pg/ml verse 13.10±5.40pg/ml,P<0.05).3.The serum level of TGF-β1 in common group and severe group were signif icantly lower than that in the control group(23.51±6.15ng/ml verse 30.98±8.66 ng/ml,20.32±6.24ng/ml verse 30.98±8.66ng/ml,P<0.05,respectively).4.The serum level of TGF-β1 in severe group were much lower than in common group(20.32±6.24ng/ml verse 23.51±6.15ng/ml,P<0.05).5.Passive smoking, birth weight more than 4000g,the level of IL-17 in bronchiolitis peripheral blood in OW group and WBS group have Statistically significant.CONCLUSIONS: 1.The serum levels of IL-17 were obviously higher and TGF-β1 were obviously lower in children with Bronchiolitis, especially in severe gro-up.It shows that IL-17 and TGF-β1 may play an important role in the development of Bronchiolitis and the serum levels of IL-17 and TGF-β1 were good index to reflect the pathogenetic condition of Bronchiolitis.2.Passive smoking, birth weight more than 4000 g,high level ofIL-17 in bronchiolitis peripheral blood are risk factors for recurrent wheezing after bronchiolitis and provide a basis for the prevention of recurrent wheezing after bronchiolitis.
