Magnolia officinalis is a traditional medicine for eliminating damp which had first been recorded in Sheng Nong’s herbal classic.It always use its dry bark from the part of tree.To collect different levels of medicinal materials and decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis which come from different places,and choose the correct method to process the materials according to the"Chinese Pharmacopoeia".To establish the characteristic chromatograms by combining the traditional classification method and using the modern scientific methods.To analyze the quality standards from the different levels of decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis by describing the number of the common peaks and relative peak places and the ratio of the area of peaks in chromatogram.It is expected to provide a reasonable and scientific reference for controlling the quality of decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis and establishing the graded standard of marker.Using of four different polarity solvent extraction to get composition of the samples of decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis.To establish the UV spectra of the sample by Ultraviolet spectrophotography and scan by the wavelengths of 200 to 400nm.Analysis of the absorption of the different solvents extract and secure the maximum absorption wavelength of the common peak.The consequence is that maximum absorption wavelength is stable in different samples and with a characteristic sense which can play an important role in identity and can provide the date of basic research for grading for decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis.To demarcate the effective component as Magnolol and Honokiol by HPLC,and choose the optimal chromatographic separation conditions to using the type of isocratic elution by the factor of mobile phase that acetonitrile:water(65:35).To set up the HPLC photographs and compare the similarity of the different grades of decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis which has planted in different places.It can take the ratio of area between the two peaks about Magnolol and Honokiol or of area in total peak as the index parameters.The method is proved to be stable and repeatable,and can provide the date of basic research for grading for decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis.The volatile oil from the decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis was ed by steam distillation and analyzed by GC method.To establish the GC standard photographs and compare the similarity of the different levels of decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis.The chromatogram is divided into three sections from A to C according to the trend of concentration on the chromatographic peaks.It has gain 24 common peaks,and 8 of them have stronger signal.It can provide the date of basic research for grading for decoction pieces of Magnolia officinalis.
