| Purpose:Dental anxiety leads to undesirable distresses such as avoidance of dental treatment and increase stress among caregivers that consequently affect the treatment quality. The aim of this study was therefore to evaluate the effectiveness of children compliance using protective stabilization as an behavior guidance technique on behaviour and anxiety in children receiving dental treatment.Material and methods:One hundred and sixty-consecutive children patients who presented for treatment and met inclusion criteria were included and randomly divided into two groups;a non-stabilization group without stabilization and a stabilization-group.Three dental treatment visits were provided for each patient.Anxiety and cooperative behaviour were assessed with Children’s Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale(CFSS-DS)and Frankl Behavior Rating Scale(FS)before treatment. After treatment each time,Houpt Scale(HS)was scales by doctor. The same assessment will be taken in each oral treatment. Results:The stabilization-group showed 79 patients that have completed the treatment of 80 patients, only 1 failed for treatment.in the non-stabiliation group, there are 8 patients that failed.the theatment rates are respectively 98.75%and 90%,the treatment efficiency between two groups were significantly diferent(P<0.05).After regular reexamination, there are respectively 23 in The stabilization-group that can be therapied without protective stabilization, and 13 patients in the non-stabiliation group that can cooperate. After regular reexamination, children compliance receiving dental treatment with protective stabilization in stabilization group can reach to 100%,and 90%in non-stabilization group. The treatment efficiency between two groups were significantly diferent(P<0.05).Conclusions:There are higher scales in the anxiety level after protective stabilization, but the children complicance can be improved in regular reexamination. |
