Objective:To study the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of impacted teeth and thus to formulate the optimum combined surgical-orthodontic treatment. Methods:The present study was carried out on the basis of the collection of clinical and imaging data of 117 patients with impacted teeth who were hospitalized in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,Second Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Zhejiang University from January 2016 to August 2018.A retrospective analysis was further performed through induction, statistics and comparison to study the clinical characteristics, treatment options and prognosis of enrolled patients. Results:The proportion of patients with impacted teeth was 2.66%among all patients hospitalized in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The incidence of male patients was higher than that of female patients, and most of which were childhood patients, while the incidence of adult patients was less by comparison.Impacted teeth occurred mainly in upper canines, followed by upper incisors, mandibular canines, lower second premolars, and upper lateral incisors.Furthermore, the major cause of impacted teeth was the obstruction of the tooth eruption passage.Meanwhile,50.31%of the patients underwent surgical extraction of the impacted teeth,31.68%of the patients received orthodontic traction of guide-erupt operation. The success rate of traction was high. Conclusion:Impacted teeth are complex cases in orthodontic treatment.Surgical orthodontics combined with guide-erupt operation is required to restore the aesthetic form and occlusal function of complete dentition. The treatment plan of impacted maxillary teeth should be formulated by orthodontists and extra-oral doctors jointly.Effective correction of maxillary impacted teeth can be realized by selecting reasonable indications and by using orthodontic technology combined with surgery.
